A couple of weeks ago, I got off my ass and we bought a needle and thread so I could sew up a hole in my living room pillow which had been slowly getting bigger. After I did it, without any real skill, I felt great! For one, I accomplished something that I should have done awhile ago, but also because it had been fun to do. I told Shawn about it and he suggested I make my own stuffed animals. If I had fun sewing, then not only would I still be doing that but I have a lifelong love of stuffed animals so it seemed like it could be a good fit. Then the doodles resurfaced. I could make my own line of stuffed animals based on them!! It was a very exciting idea, but the only thing is…..my sewing skills are quite rudimentary. Shawn suggested I find some tutorials online and see if that could get me started, so I took yet more of his advice and Googled it. I found a site on how to make a simple stuffed animal at http://www.ehow.com/video_4433441_materials-stuffed-animal.html. It was perfect, and after watching each step I was ready to do it.
Over one weekend we went to Hobby Lobby and bought some cheap pieces of felt, some polyfil, thread, pins, and a sketch pad. After that, we went to Whole Foods to eat a snack and draw out the frog design I had done at Wizard World. Shawn is an artist, even if he doesn’t consider himself to be one, so he drew it and we labeled all the different parts that would need to be their own patterns. Then we got distracted by what these stuffed animals would be called. We started throwing out suggestions, although he came up with most of them, until we finally hit on one that I liked the best. Demonals, as in demons that are stuffed animals. I fell in love with it! It was cute, catchy, and fun to say. So now I could begin.
